Psychotherapy in English
Welcome to your English-speaking therapy in Frankfurt & Online
I am Michael Röder, licensed psychological counselor (Heilpraktiker für Psychotherapie) with a focus on Gestalt therapy. Since 2014, I have been supporting international clients – expats, students, binational families, and professionals – in Germany and China.
With over twelve years of experience in China as a lecturer and counselor, I bring a strong intercultural sensitivity into my therapeutic work. I understand the challenges of living abroad: cultural differences, emotional stress, and the often limited access to mental health support.
In my practice, I offer a safe and supportive space for personal development, emotional balance, and psychological growth – all in English, available across Germany and in my office in Frankfurt.
My therapeutic approach
I work with Gestalt therapy – a humanistic, experience-based approach that focuses on awareness, emotions, and relationship patterns.
Whether online or in person in Frankfurt, we explore what blocks you, how you might stand in your own way, and how you can reconnect with your resources, emotions, and body.

How we work together
You can start with a short introductory call (around 20 minutes) if you have initial questions or simply want to get to know me. However, the best way to explore whether psychological counseling or psychotherapy is right for you is to book a full 50‑minute session. This first session gives us a chance to see if we can work well together and to make an initial assessment of your situation. We talk about your goals, expectations, what you hope to achieve, and what you have already tried, and consider what can realistically be addressed in therapy right away and what may take longer.
The full approach to therapy or counseling develops naturally over time, depending on how you respond to topics and how far you want to go emotionally. The first sessions help us find the right pace and focus, while deeper work unfolds gradually. My role is to support you in discovering what is possible step by step, at a pace that feels right for you.
For ongoing psychotherapy, a diagnosis is required—either from a medical doctor or through these first sessions with me. We also use this time to establish a trusting relationship and agree on the frequency and length of future sessions. Sessions usually last 50 minutes, but can be extended when needed for specific interventions.
Therapy can be short-term (6–10 sessions), medium-term (10–25 sessions), or long-term (25+ sessions), with the option to continue support over time if needed. You decide together with me how long therapy should continue, and I provide guidance based on your needs.
Psychological counseling is also available without a diagnosis. All services can be offered online throughout Germany or in my Frankfurt office.

About me
My interest in psychology and emotional processes has been with me since my youth. I studied Intercultural Communication, Psychoanalysis, and Humanistic Psychotherapy, and trained extensively in Gestalt therapy.
Having lived in China for more than twelve years, I have worked with international students, professionals, and families. These experiences strongly shape my therapeutic attitude: open, respectful, and culturally sensitive.
